A natural region is the part of a country or even a continent which has some similarities related to its land, weather, vegetation, fauna, economic activities, population, and so on. In this way, each region is distinguishable among other regions of the country.
In Colombia the natural regions has been comprised taking into account the Colombian Andes mountain variety, the Caribbean sea, the Pacific Ocean, the Insular region (islands both in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans), the Amazon rainforest and the region part of the Llanos plains and the Orinoco river.
In this sense, Colombia has six natural regions which have been called according to their main geographic characteristics. For instance, the northern part of the country is the Caribbean region; the Pacific region which is bounded by the Pacific Ocean. Talking about Andean region, in this part of the continent the Andes system is split up in three mountains: Central, Western, and Oriental ranges. In the fourth place, it is the Orinoco region bounding by Venezuela to the west and it is mainly plain. The southern region is the Amazon region and it contains the Amazon rain forest. Finally, the insular region includes San Andres and Providencia and the Malpelo and GorgonaIslands; the former, is located in the Caribbean Sea, on the other hand, the second ones are located in the Pacific Ocean.
