PATRON SAINT CELEBRATION OF SANTA BARBARA DE ARAUCA

 

The name of patron saint's celebrations was chosen for the festivities, taking the name of a Virgin, like a tribute; during this celebration the participants do different acts such as horse racing, donkey races, sack races, cock fights and dances.

 

The festivity of Santa Barbara is celebrated between December 4 and 8, every year in Arauca. Generally, the program is for three days. Each day is represented by the mayors of celebrations; some of the hosts are the cattle-raising union, the farmers and the retailers groups.

 

The patron saint celebrations of Santa Barbara de Arauca are an event consolidated within the plains of Arauca, this space permits the encounter of native expressions, where you can forget the borders   among Colombia and Venezuela.

 

The festival is part of the intangible heritage of Arauca and raises the cultural values as an identity expression,

CACHAMA FESTIVAL

Between May and beginning of June.

 

This festival has been an excellence platform of great artists known in many places of the word. During this festival various cultural events are integrated. The Cachama festival exalts the values and the conservation of the Llanera music in all its artistic and cultural phases. It promotes the permanence of the values and their transmission to the new generations.

 

Delegations can participate following the instructions of the Organizers

 

One contestant in strong male voice

One interpreter in female strong voice

One coplero (verse singer) or contrapunteador

Dance couple

One delegate or director of the delegation

It is recommended to all the delegations and contestants to take Llanero camping, formed by hammock and toldillo (to prevent bugs during the night).

The minimum age is 16 years.

 

FOLKLORIC RODEO FESTIVAL

 

Municipality: Tauramena, Casanare.

Dates: March 19, 20 and 21

 

It is an important event created at the composer and singer, Maestro Dumar Aljure Rivas

He realized that there were better artists than him in Tauramena and Casanare.  They had nobody who sponsorship or seen them.  With this in mind, he decided to sponsor an event intended to promote them.  In 1979, was the first Tauramena’s sample of Folkloric and Tourism Festival in San Martin (Meta), he was very cautious when he was selecting the artists.  Radio stations such as La Voz del Llano, Radio 5 from Villavicencio and La Voz de Yopal promoted the calling in the different Llanera music programs. Success was immediate.  Before the date set, he gave it the category of Folkloric Festival and added the Rodeo term on behalf of the cattle rodeos gathered in the region.

 

The folkloric and rodeo festival has been celebrated since March 19, 1981, and has evolved from a local event to a regional and national and even international since 1995, this festival contain many things

 

Tauramena Nights:  Fireworks display

 

Popular Bands:  Different musical groups from the inner urban regions are invited to participate and entertain the festivities.

 

Afternoons of rodeos and jaripeo: typical sport of the region

 

Crafts and typical foods displays.

 

 

VICHADA

INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF LLANERO CORRIO

 

It started in 1987 in the Comisaría Especial del Vichada, as an international competitive folkloric festival, as an answer of the local government to the need of the community and the folklorists to get better and promotes the values of the region.

 

One of its several missions is to seek and strengthen the good integration relations between Colombia and Venezuela, who shares part of the territory, and therefore the same culture

 

This is an event that congregates a large number of folklorist groups from the different states of Venezuela and the different municipalities and inspections from Vichada, special guests from the department of Meta, who don't participate but help to spirit the event. Other departments such as Arauca, Casanare, and Guainía also participate.
